Buckle up, code gremlins, because today's AI news is all about who gets to write (and guard) the software.

Mistral Gives Away a Giant

Mistral AI released the open weights for Mistral Large 4, nicknamed "Le Chonk." 🧩 It's a 1-trillion-parameter model, and anyone can download it from Hugging Face and run it on their own machines.

  • 🛡️ Mistral pitches it for defensive security work, like reproducing and patching real software bugs, and says it solves 93% of the Cybench challenge set.
  • 🛑 Mistral says it refused 96.6% of malicious cyber requests in its tests, the highest it measured among open models.
  • ⚠️ Mistral also admitted it sees "a potential for uplift" for real attacks, as CSO Online pointed out.

It's like handing out a master key that promises it only opens doors for the good guys.

Copilot Now Picks Its Own Brains

GitHub made Copilot Fusion generally available. 🖥️ Instead of you choosing an AI model, Fusion decides which model (or team of models) handles each step, like letting one draft code while others review it.

  • 💸 GitHub says Fusion Max scored within two points of Claude Opus 5.5 Max on a coding-agent test, at about half the cost.
  • 📈 Its new Octoverse report says agents started more than 40% of pull requests in September, up from 17% in March.

Basically, the robots aren't just doing the homework anymore, they're picking which robot does it.

Google Says Goodbye to Jules

Google is shutting down Jules, the coding agent it launched in December 2024. 🧾 Users can keep finishing sessions until November 11, then Jules goes read-only before it winds down on December 31.

  • 📦 You can export settings, memories and full session history now, and your code stays in GitHub.
  • 🚀 Google says lessons from Jules are going into Antigravity, its agent-first coding platform.

It's the classic group-chat move: "This chat is closing, we're all moving to the new one."
