Google's Genie 4 Builds Worlds as Claude Heads to the Lab
Google's new world model adds sound and live steering, Anthropic shows Claude helping design medicines, and governments get a big Claude discount.
Buckle up, world-builders, because today the AI news comes with sound effects and lab goggles.
Genie 4 Builds Worlds You Can Hear
Google DeepMind announced Genie 4, its newest world model, which turns a prompt into an interactive scene you can move around in. 🎮 This time the worlds come with audio too: music, background noise and even dialogue, all generated along with the picture.
- 🧩 You can steer things live in plain English, like changing the weather or dropping a new object into the scene.
- ⏱️ TechCrunch reports a scene can stay consistent for up to about two minutes, roughly double Genie 3.
- 🧪 It's a research preview for trusted testers for now.
Google admits details can still drift the longer you play. Think of it as a video game that occasionally forgets where it left your couch.
Claude Puts On a Lab Coat
Anthropic shared early results from drug research with six partners, including Bristol Myers Squibb and Generate Biomedicines. 💊 Generate's scientists used Claude Code to redesign part of a CAR-T cancer therapy. One design was about 70% shorter, and in lab tests the immune cells made roughly 10 times as many cancer-spotting receptors.
Anthropic also bought Mithril Medicine, a one-person biotech whose founder used Claude to juggle work with 11 outside labs. 📝 It took a muscular dystrophy treatment from idea to promising mouse results in under 18 months, and Anthropic says human trials could start as soon as late 2028. Big caveat: almost all of this is still preclinical, so no new medicine yet.
Governments Get Claude on Sale
The U.S. General Services Administration expanded its deal with Anthropic, giving government buyers a 40% discount on Claude Enterprise, Claude for Government and the Claude API. 🧾 For the first time, state, local, tribal and territorial governments qualify too, and there's no minimum spend, so agencies pay only for what they use.
- 💼 Anthropic estimates the discounts could save the government $1 billion.
- 🏛️ About 500 U.S. government organizations already use Claude.
Basically, the government just found a coupon code for AI.
